[edit] Unanswered Questions about the CMS
[edit] Calendar, News and RSS
- After some evaluation, it looks like RSS isn't working (only partially). "All Events" feed doesn't work and other issues exist with the calendar.
- Note from Heather:
The News feed is working! The Calendar feeds, not so much. I just added all of the Calendar feeds to see what is working and what is not. pTestEvent appears in the OTIS Academic Events feed, but not in the ALL feed. Contributor Event appear in the ALL feed, but nowhere else.
- One of the events I created – Fourth of July Holiday at http://www.otis.edu/admin/event/edit/id/37 - is published. I actually tried changing its type a few times to see if that would make it appear in the feeds. Still doesn't appear in any of the feeds. Also, the event lasts for two days. If the On Going Event* box is checked, the item appears on both July 3 and 4 in the Calendar. If the box is unchecked, though, it only appears on July 3.
- Oh, I just realized that I was testing the system with the Community Picnic event. I created the event a few days ago and set the Publish Date for 6/25/08. I was hoping that the CMS would automatically publish the event on the date specified. Didn't happen. Oh well.
- Here is a related question – will the categories change depending upon which type is chosen?
- And a question from Tuesday for Hello – will we be able to specify times for all Event Types? Otherwise items like the Community Picnic will be listed as a Public Program even though it is not.
- Should be two words: Ongoing Event--Peterwschlamp 10:30, 27 June 2008 (PDT)
- Update: The two July events appeared in the appropriate RSS feeds on July 1. So, I'd like clarification as to when events will show up in the feeds - same month? a set number of days before the event? --Heather Cleary 14:19, 2 July 2008 (PDT)
- Only Calendar events with the Type Public Programs can be timed events. If you choose a different category, e.g. Admissions, the event is considered to run all-day. The begin/end dates are greyed out.--Heather Cleary 15:57, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
- Alternately, there is no way to designate a Public Program event as happening "all-day."
- Only Calendar events with the Type Public Programs are clickable. Events that are not of the type "Public Programs" display as plain text. Even though a page seems to be created for these events, you cannot get to it easily, e.g. [1]. --Heather Cleary 16:15, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
- FYI: Events that occur over multiple days only appear on the beginning date. I wish there was a way for the Calendar to display the end date without having to check "Ongoing Event." Events like Finals Week and Spring Break are multi-day events that rarely cross months.-Heather Cleary 16:23, 4 August 2008 (PDT)
- Another thing: The Event list and details pages for these multi-day events only list the start date. For example, the TLC Teach-In goes from 10am on Aug. 11 to 5pm on Aug. 22, but here is how it is listed on the Event Details:
- 08/11/08
- 10:00am - 05:00pm
- The date range is also not shown on the Event list page.
- At least the multiple dates do appear when one sends an event to Outlook.--Heather Cleary 12:23, 5 August 2008 (PDT)
- Links for Ongoing Events in Calendar don't work. The link goes to http://www.otis.edu/calendar/index.html instead of the event detail page.--Heather Cleary 19:19, 15 August 2008 (PDT)
- Ongoing Events in Calendar always appear no matter what event type/category is chosen.' Is this a bug, or how we want it? It can be misleading.--Heather Cleary 09:37, 3 September 2008 (PDT)
- Page navigation does not work on News. The links for pages 1, 2, etc. at the bottom of the News page, e.g. http://www.otis.edu/news/index.html, do not work. Clicking on 2 should go to http://www.otis.edu/news/index?p=2; instead it goes to http://www.otis.edu/news/index/index.html?p=2. Also, there needs to be a paragraph added after the page numbers so that they do not overlap with the page footer. --Heather Cleary 18:36, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
- The News breadcrumb and the Work breadcrumb do not work. For example, go to http://www.otis.edu/news/39.html. This may not be a problem, and certainly is a minor one.--Heather Cleary 18:44, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
- RSS calendar feeds sort backwards --Peterwschlamp 11:44, 16 September 2008 (PDT)
[edit] Browser Issues
- Heather and Kat had a problem printing pages from the site, which is something that parents want to do frequently.--Peterwschlamp 15:06, 8 July 2008 (PDT)
- When you do a print preview, the content appears on 1 page and the background image and the header text on another. Can we get a link to a "print-friendly" version? Or force the header and page content to be printed on the same page?--Heather Cleary 17:03, 10 July 2008 (PDT)
- Can't use admin properly in internet explorer; cannot choose assets.--Peterwschlamp 10:41, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
- The splash page still does not display properly on Internet Explorer 7.x. The footer is smushed into the header and none of the middle content appears. Has Hello fixed any of the IE problems?--Heather Cleary 09:54, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
- This problem can be fixed by upgrading the browser's Flash plugin.--Per Peter
- Can we add some sort of page to check if the browser is running the appropriate version of Flash, and if the answer is no, then bring up an interim page with info on it? Or even an alternate version of the home page with directions on how to upgrade Flash? Though bothersome, they are better than the ugly, unusable Flash-deficient IE version.--Heather Cleary 10:28, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
- Footer in Internet Explorer 6.x vs. Firefox. Footer on this page: Library Staff looks completely different on IE than FF. Sue
- 8/25 - The footer is hard to see on certain pages due to its coloring. Can we fix this in some way. Here is an example. http://www.otis.edu/life_otis/student_life/index.html. Doctor Carol. (copied from CMS Issues Noticed By the Community)
- 8/25 - In IE, the footer text appears against the background image; in Firefox, it appears at the bottom of the white content box. -Heather (copied from CMS Issues Noticed By the Community)
- 9/11-The problem is with IE6. The footer displays against the white box in IE7.
- 8/25 - The footer is hard to see on certain pages due to its coloring. Can we fix this in some way. Here is an example. http://www.otis.edu/life_otis/student_life/index.html. Doctor Carol. (copied from CMS Issues Noticed By the Community)
- Pages with tabs do not display properly in IE6. Pages with tabs in the Academics section appear with lines and wrapping. On pages in other parts of the site. the tabs appear horizontally one top of the other.
[edit] Formatting
Add here issues with page formatting.
[edit] Headers
- H2 and H3 tags specifically. I set up this page to test the tags.--Heather Cleary 11:25, 18 July 2008 (PDT)
- I just noticed that the H3 tag is used in the right sidebar. The text is white. Does this mean that the CMS has reserved H3 for the sidebar? I tried to use the H3 tag in the main content window and change its color, but it didn't work.--Heather Cleary 17:58, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
- 9/11-The H2 tag now appears.
[edit] Paragraphs, Bullets, and Lists
- Paragraph bug. When you publish a page after working in WYSIWYG mode, the CMS will convert break tags or add a paragraph tag where it's not wanted. This was been submitted to Hello on 7-1.
- Bullet bug??? library computers page The bullets go outside the left margin. I HATE that. --Sue 14:47, 30 June 2008 (PDT) This has been submitted to Hello.
- Bullets and numbered lists display better, but now perfect. The numbers and bullets are now aligned with text. Indents, though, appear properly in the edit mode but not when published. See the test page.--Heather Cleary 12:02, 11 September 2008 (PDT)
- Paragraph tag does not pick up proper CSS on Tabbed templates. This has been submitted to Hello and may have been addressed.
- Can’t end a bulleted list. This has been submitted to Hello and may have been addressed.
- I added the li and ul tags to the header test page. We can use it check whether the issues have been resolved across all browsers. --heather
[edit] Tables
- Within a class=”otislife” div, tables do not render as specified. This has been submitted to Hello and may have been addressed.
- Bug in tables related to cell padding. It's not working. See this page.
[edit] Other
- Custom classes do not display the same in the edit and publish modes. For example, the Maltz Gallery template code has the the tag <class="title">. In the Edit page mode, it appears big, bold, red, and sans serif. On the published page, though, it appears bold, black, and serif. --Heather Cleary 18:45, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
- If you change a page's color scheme, you cannot change it back to its default by selecting None. Although you get a confirmation message that the color scheme has been updated, it has not. To force a change, you have to choose a named scheme, e.g. Life@Otis. Tested on the Library's page, About Us.--Heather Cleary 15:19, 10 July 2008 (PDT)
- BenMaltz_gallery_info Template has extraneous drop-down menu. See the Public Programs Menu appear in the lower righthand corner on http://www.otis.edu/public_programs/ben_maltz_gallery/gallery_info.html. The code was in the page's template.--Heather Cleary 18:47, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
[edit] Asset Library
- No Gif allowed??? I can't believe what a pain that is... --Sue 13:20, 2 July 2008 (PDT) This has been addressed by Hello. However, not via the asset library, but via the same method a PDF if entered into the system. We would prefer that GIF images were treated as other images. I will re-submit for the enhancement.
- Asset Library General Notes and Questions. This is under discussion and will be submitted to Hello as soon as I get feedback from the email I sent to the team, as of 6/27 only Heather provided feedback, I will not send the the requirements until I get Margi, Anne, and Sue's approval.
[edit] Other
- 8 Friendlier (more descriptive) error pages are needed, can we edit/create custom error pages? Hello has agreed to implement, we need to create and deliver the custom messages.
- What is the list of error pages? --Heather
- File upload path is wrong. When you use the Browse server button to link to a file, it adds an unneccessary /fie to the page, e.g. /assets/user/file/Maps/MapMainCampus.pdf. Temp fix is to edit out the extra bit.--Heather Cleary 18:36, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
[edit] Resolved Issues
- Adding a PHP script? This is what we have now: Library sendemail. This is what’s on the new site, but it doesn’t yet function: at staging --Sue 11:46, 30 June 2008 (PDT)
- The vertical scrollbars on the front page of the new site have been suppressed. Although it does make the page lovely to look it, it also makes it less usuable to many users. I checked the page on Marc Meredith's computers (Mac and PC running Firefox 2.x) and the 2nd floor FinAid student computer. The front page is cut off around the first News feed item. On my PC, I cannot see the footer. So, can we please un-suppress the scrollbars of the splash page?--Heather Cleary 09:54, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
- Foundation page isn't working. The page appears as text without the background image, menus, or sidebar.--Heather Cleary 09:28, 5 August 2008 (PDT)
- Per Rick, Hello said it was a glitch in the system. Page loads fine now.--Heather Cleary 15:30, 6 August 2008 (PDT)
- What size should movies and pictures be to display properly in the slideshow player under works--Peterwschlamp 08:43, 24 July 2008 (PDT)
- Check the CMS Style Guide.--Heather Cleary 10:28, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
- There are breadcrumb trail issues, but Rick is working on it.--Heather Cleary 12:00, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
- Peter wrote a generic script that works for the Library's pages.--Heather Cleary 10:28, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
- Sidebar in wrong place. There is space between the content window and the sidebar on Admissions-Grad page. I've only seen it on this one page.--Heather Cleary 09:28, 5 August 2008 (PDT)
- Per Peter, there is usually a DIV tag gone awry somewhere in the code. I was able to fix a different page by adding a missing /div.--Heather Cleary 18:30, 7 August 2008 (PDT)
