[edit] Learning Objects by Otis Students: Patty Kovic's Typography 5 Class

Patty Kovic spent the Fall 06 semester working with herTypography 5 classes to create Learning Objects. Learning objects are small units of learning which are self contained, reusable, often interactive and online. They can be video or QT movies, web pages, animations, or interactive Flash pieces.

For their assignment, students were asked to identify a subject taught at Otis, collaborate with a teacher, and create a learning object using Flash. Otis students were empowered to create learning experiences directed toward their younger peers. Since they have the excellent design skills, the results were extraordinary. Take a look at the examples are listed below:

[edit] iTunes U is Up and Running

We are proud to present our "Podcast Pioneers" as we begin to use iTunes U this Fall 2006. Dr. Jeanne Willette and Joan Takayama-Ogawa, recipients of TLC Technology Grants Spring 2006, spent all summer creating almost a dozen Enhanced Podcasts for Introduction to Visual Culture and Developmental English II. Check them out! Dr. Willette has also added her new Visual Culture audio-only lectures from this Fall Semester class.

Yael Samuel has also taken advantage of the opportunity and has added audio-only Podcasts for her Developmental English I class to listen to as reinforcement to class content.

In addition, Jerri Allyn produced an excellent short video about her A.C.T. program which we added to the site as well. It was shot and edited entirely by Otis students.

Finally, Shelley Forbes, Circulation Manager of the Millard Sheets Library has completed a quite entertaining Enhanced Podcast Tour of the Library.

In addition to all these NEW Podcasts, we also kept recent archival audio-only Podcasts from Dr. Ysamur Flores-Pena's class Mary in Folk Art and Belief; Dr. Jeanne Willette's previous Introduction to Visual Culture class as well as her Modern Art History class.

To all contributors new and old, congratulations and thanks for embracing this new technology with all the bumps and crashes as we kept up with Apple's revisions and updates. According to our Apple representative, in typical fashion, "Otis is ahead of the curve."
