[edit] Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Even our simplest daily tasks often use technology these days. We can therefore embrace technology and use it as a valuable tool to help us in our lives or we can ignore it at our own risk. Faculty across the disciplines may find a broad range of needs that could be resolved with technology. That's why we started the TLC.
You may simply need to scan a photo or article to use for your next class. You may upload your entire syllabus, assignments, handouts, and reference material to your class on O-Space. You can create a rich visual presentation using the resources of the DID. You may record all your lectures and make them into podcasts on iTunes U or create Learning Objects for current and future classes to use. Whatever it is, from simply logging attendance to advanced online class discussions, the tools are available to you. Remember, technology is meant to be a useful tool for you, not a burden.
More About Teaching and Pedagogy
- (From Randy Lavender) "How many of us have read the primary literature on teaching and learning in higher education? What is that literature? one may ask. As part of my own study and research on teaching and learning in art and design, I have compiled a bibliography of over 120 titles that can expand our understanding of exactly how teaching works, and how we affect our students through our efforts. [edit] Teaching the Net Generation
The Net Generation has grown up surrounded by information technology. Their entire lifestyle, expectation, and learning styles simply reflect the environment in which they were raised. Educause has many articles on this subject, and defines the Net Generation, among other things as: born on or after 1982; gravitate towards group activity; 8 of 10 say it is "cool to be smart"; busy with extracurricular activities; and fascinated with new technology. Learn to speak their language and challenge them with a variety of educational technology. For further discussion on Students, Learning, and Technology.
